Release Notes: Pro2 Firmware ( V 1.17478.177)

EZCast Pro Dongle II and EZCast Pro Box II firmware release addresses important security enhancements related to password protection and wireless network security. The update reinforces existing password protection mechanisms to reduce potential vulnerabilities and improve overall system security. Furthermore, in response to Redda’s updated Wi-Fi password policy, additional safeguards have been implemented to ensure compliance with the latest password requirements. These changes are designed to enhance protection against unauthorized access while maintaining system stability and reliability. Updating to this firmware version is recommended to maintain security compliance and ensure optimal protection.

  • ⚠️ Critical Security & User Impact Updates

This update introduces significant security enhancements that directly affect device management and login procedures:

  • Mandatory Admin Password Change: Per Red-Da security requirements, users must change their password upon logging into the Web Admin backend. The complexity requirements for new passwords have also been increased.
  • Strengthened Default Wi-Fi Security: The default Wi-Fi password is now more secure and no longer uses a simple 8-digit format.
  • Wi-Fi Password Visibility: Users who are still using the default Wi-Fi password but have hidden the password in the UI should be aware of these security changes.
  • Existing Custom Credentials: If you have already changed your Admin or Wi-Fi passwords, your settings will be preserved, and you will not be impacted by these changes. On the other hand, if you haven’t updated the admin password, you will be required to change it when you first log in.
  • If you experience connectivity issues after updating the firmware, please perform a reset to factory default settings and reconfigure the device.

📢 EZCast Pro Dongle II Update (v1.17478.183)

New Feature: AWDL & P2P Support Firmware 1.17478.183 now supports AWDL (Apple Wireless Direct Link), enabling direct P2P functionality for AirPlay and Miracast.

  • P2P Direct Casting: Project directly to the Dongle II without joining the local Wi-Fi.
  • Performance: Bypasses network infrastructure to reduce latency and congestion.
  • Compatibility:
    • Apple: AirPlay P2P via AWDL.
    • Windows/Android: Standard Miracast P2P.
